The hunting season will soon start in Durbuy!

The Ardennes that is also hunting. For many years there has been a tradition of hunting in the Ardennes. With hunting, they not only take care of the delicious meals on your plate, but also guard the balance of wild animals in the forests of Luxembourg.

During the hunting season you can and may still enjoy the nature that the Ardennes has to offer. The hunting calendar of the Durbuy region can  be found here. There are measures of forces for safe hunting. We list them here.

Entrances to the forests

When you see these posters hanging at the entrance of the forest, access is prohibited. Respect this guideline, they are for your safety. In the case of a red poster, access is prohibited, i.e. it is an active hunting area. With a yellow poster they announce that hunting will take place.

Clothing

During autumn the forests are at their most beautiful with all the variegated colors of the leaves, but it is also darker in the forests. Therefore, wear clothing with strongly striking colors, such as fluorescent for example. Avoid going into the woods completely dark or camouflaged dresses. Your visibility is your safety!

With the dog

Autumn is the most beautiful season for a nice walk with the dog in the woods. Nevertheless, during the hunting season, keep your loyal friend on a leash in a forest that is designated as a hunting area. A bang of a shot can alarm and disturb him.

If the forest is not designated as a hunting area, it is still best to keep your dog close to you. Floating during the hunt can cause the animals to flee in the forest. Your dog might see this as a game and put a run to it.

Enjoy nature in complete safety.

Why you should enjoy the Ardennes in autumn.

The Ardennes has something special like other regions in Belgium. In the Ardennes it is always fun all year round. Especially autumn has charm that you won’t find anywhere else. It is therefore the perfect place to extend your holiday feeling.

1.    Continue to enjoy nature and the outdoors.

The Ardennes is really nice and cozy in the summer, but you can also continue to enjoy it in the fall.

The leaves start to discolour and the forests then have a beautiful appearance. Walks deep in the forests of the Ardennes are therefore not to be missed when visiting the Ardennes in autumn. Finish with a winter barbecue and an evening around the fire pit with friends or family.

2.    Go spotting burbling deer

From mid-September to mid-October you can spot roaring deer in the woods near the Ardennes. The beautiful natural phenomenon really heralds autumn. The deer then go into their Bronze Age and thus look for mates to mate. To attract the females, the males roar loudly in the woods. Read tips here to be sure to spot them.

3.    The local cuisine is alive and well

Autumn is the culinary momentum of the Ardennes. The hunting season starts and the chefs conjure up the tastiest dishes on your plate with ingredients fresh from the region. Locally picked mushrooms and vegetables combined with a good local beer are the basis for the best stews in the region.  That can only taste good.

4.    Visit a museum

Our Ardennes has a rich history and culture and they like to put it in the spotlight. There are therefore very interesting museums or historical sites to visit in the region. Learn all about the fauna and flora or discover modern art. There is definitely something to discover for you!
